keeps the inevitable at bay

fear of realizing
what you truly are
or worse
what you know
you are not
because if you were
what you aim to seem
you'd never have built
your foundation
on another's back
made them carry the weight
of your weakness
so you wouldn't have
to face it
and yet
in all your privilege
you stay chained
to your weakness
chains heavier
than those you oppress
because you choose
your chains
like jewelry
deliberately
obstructing liberty
and so you too
never realize
your fullest self
